First up there's the title sequence, which is downright primitive by modern standards and there's no sign of Laurie Johnson's iconic theme tune. Back then, the show was a different beast.īack in series 1, things were a little different. It was in the Emma Peel years that the series moved to 35mm and then to colour and gained what is still one of the greatest of all TV theme tunes. But even if you know it and have even seen a few episodes, there's a good chance they'll have starred Diana Rigg or Linda Thorson, or even Joanna Lumley if you count the later New Avengers revival. I'd like to think that just about everyone reading this has at least heard of The Avengers, and I'm talking about the TV series not that abomination of a feature film.
